I just wanted to do a quick post on some of the factors you need for a website to be SEO friendly. This checklist is focused on on page factors. These are factors you need to make your website readable by the search engine spiders so they know what your site it about.
- Title tags in the meta tag fields of your html
- Keyword rich domain containing your main keyword phrase
- Keyword rich Description in the meta tag fields of your html
- H1 and H2 Tags containing your main keywords
- Sitemap in both XML and HTML format
- Unique content (no duplicate content)
- Alt tags for images with your keywords
- Custom 404 Error Pages or 301 Redirect
- A blog on your site so you can tap into RSS feed syndication
- Optimize your content with keywords and phrases naturally integrated
- The correct internal link structure so you can pass on page rank value to inner pages (which strengthens overall site value)
Those are the main factors to get you going on having a site that the search engines will love and rank you for your keywords you are targeting.
Your main focus for further onpage optimization after you get those in check is to keep building your site with fresh, relevant and unique content..
I found the best way to do this is by having a blog on your site and posting to it regularly which even I am guilty of not keeping up on.
But the more content you have on your site, the better.
The next post I’ll jump into some offpage SEO factors to get you website to rank high in the search engines.
